Biggles in the new garden

Runs and runs, and runs!

Hello! Bertie here again.

We are all keeping our distance from everyone except our immediate household. Roscoe and I had an argument about it in the garden and I won! I hope you are too.

We were out in the garden for the, um, seventh? day in a row. We have two days in the run, then it moves. It’s been moving across the garden. Then yesterday it took a step down the garden. Roscoe says it’s going to come back across next, but I say it’s going to continue down. We didn’t argue about that. We argued about who was going to give way in the tunnel.

It’s been lovely and sunny, and warm, and we’ve enjoyed the runs on the grass a lot.

Now when we go back in afterwards we find Mummy’s been working on new runs for us inside. They’ll take the place of our cages. I’ll be back in a nice 3×2 panel run. Roscoe and Neville will share a 4×2. Biggles is getting a funny shaped one which adds up to a 3×2, but fits our space better. Mummy says she likes to be able to walk round the back of Biggles’s cage to clean it.

Anyway, we’ll post photos when it’s finished.

All By Myself… again

Way-aye, Roscoe here again.

That Bertie told you the news last week: I’m all by myself again.

To tell the truth, it’s not bad. I can sit beside Neville’s run, and chew on the bars a bit if I want a chat. Most times he comes over. Sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes he comes and sits by the bars when I’m doing something else, so if I’m too busy I ignore him.

I noticed yesterday, no Saturday, he and Biggles got a clean underpad. Normally we get an underpad and new fleece at the same time, about every five days, although Mam does change those disposable pads more often. I wonder if Mam’s realised that it’s Neville who’s been weeing a lot, not me. I know she took us both to see Dr Sally after Christmas, because she was worried one of us had something the matter, but Dr Sally couldn’t see anything obvious. I quite like seeing Dr Sally. After she’s had a good feel of my tummy, which is a bit uncomfortable sometimes, she gives me a cuddle, which makes up for it.

So anyway, Mam’s worked out what needs doing, my feet are getting better because I keep my fleece drier, and Biggles and Neville are getting to stay drier with the extra pad change.

Bertie’s his usual self. Although Mam’s a bit disappointed with him, as he’s taken to nipping her cheek when he’s on her shoulder at cucumber time, if he wants more or wants to go for a run. She told him off severely yesterday. A lot of good that’ll do, Mam!

We’re waiting to find out if we’re going to Hampshire next weekend. Mam wants to go, but if she’s going for a few nights she’ll take us with her and have a little holiday too. Or do some decorating. She says the wifi should be working on Saturday, so we might be able to blog.

Bertie was all worried we wouldn’t be able to blog and remind you it’s his birthday the following Friday. Biggles and Bertie will be THREE years old. Doesn’t time fly? Mam thinks I’m five now, and Neville four, but Neville might be the same as me, she doesn’t know. Neither do I, I never thought age was important.

Anyway, Mam says we’ll be back here for a birthday party that weekend, so there’ll be pictures next time I blog 🙂

See you then, have a good week. January is nearly over, and the afternoons stay lighter longer. Mam didn’t put our light on till 4 pm yesterday!

last grass 2019

I am not a Drama Queen! But I am happy now

Way-aye, Roscoe here.

I am not a drama queen, which is what Bertie called me last week.  I was genuinely right upset about everything going on.

But Mam sat down with me and we had a chat. Eventually I told her I was upset she’d given the little ones away, and she said, “but that’s what happens with foster piggies. I look after them for a while, and Auntie Sophie finds them a nice new home, and that’s where they’ve gone.”

Well, I didn’t know that.  I didn’t realise they’d gone the day before we’d gone to Hampshire, I thought she’d left them behind and they’d disappeared, and then Mam disappeared for two days the next week, and… Anyway, now I understand, and Mam’s reassured me that I’m not going anywhere without her, unless she’s so sick someone else has to look after us, and she’s not planning on that any time soon.

And she’s let me go back to live with Neville, because she saw how much I was missing him.  She told me if I start bullying him I’ll be out again.  I don’t bully Neville.  He just disagrees with what I tell him to do sometimes, and if he didn’t do that we’d get on perfectly all the time, instead of just most of the time.  She sniffed in that way she does when she doesn’t believe me.

So I’m back with Nev in our run, and he’s happy with that. And Biggles is next door so we can chat, and he’s happy with that, and Bertie’s in the run above, and we can chat and run around together during floor time, and he’s happy with that.

So we’re all happy now.

Although we’ve had our last grass of the year, well, out in the run at any rate. It was yummy, and there was lots of it, but it takes ages to get dry, so we won’t go out if it’s wet or cold. And it’s only warm enough if the sun’s shining on us.

And Mam is working hard on her books and on stuff about houses, and she’s pretty happy too. And she’s started to prepare for Christmas. Well, she told me she’d ordered some Christmas tree decorations with pictures of Bertie & Biggles, and Nev & me. Apparently she’s got one for all the pigs in George’s GP world, so we’re part of her Christmas always.

Ups and Downs

Hello, Bertie here again.

I’m having a wonderful time back upstairs in my old cage-run. We came up here last week, as Roscoe told you. I love it here. I can snooze in my tunnel, watching Mummy working at the computer right in front of me. She’s done a lot of that this week, although a lot of the time she’s just been staring at the screen. Sometimes she puts her head on one side and frowns, or puts her chin on her fist and goes, “hmm”. I don’t know what it means.

She’s happy, though, and she says she’s finished editing now. I think that means her new book is nearly ready. It’s not about us, though. I wish she’d write a book about me.

She’s written several books about Dylan and Dougall. There are some short stories about them on Mull, although they never got there. Dylan and Dougall would have been seven years old tomorrow. That’s really old. Apparently Colman got to his seventh birthday but he’s the only one.

Neville looks like Dylan and Dougall, Mummy says, but he’s more like Dougall in personality. I’m getting more like Dylan as we grow older, she says. I think that’s a compliment.

Biggles is getting an extension to his run tomorrow. We’ll show you pictures next time.

We’ve gone up in the world

Hiya, Roscoe here, talking from the lofty heights of upstairs.

Mam said something to us on Friday night about ‘moving upstairs’ and Saturday, after our cuddles and runaround on the kitchen floor, she took us upstairs.  I’ve never been upstairs before.  One or two stairs, yes, but not a whole level up to the rooms above, where Mam works during the day.

Bertie got terribly excited, and started popcorning around when he arrived (he was last, because Biggles went first, we went next, and he went after).  He’s back in his old home, he said.  I must admit, it’s a canny place.  We’ve got more space, and an extra tunnel and bed, but we haven’t got our fiddlesticks.  We also haven’t got the blue snugglesac, but Mam said she’s washing it in special stuff to see if she can get the hard bits out. Apparently we’re not supposed to wee in the soft furnishings.  Bit late to tell us that, Mam.

Biggles is in a loft area of his own.  It’s not as big as Bertie’s run, which is a tad smaller than ours, but Mam says she’s putting in an extension next week.

When we went down for our cuddles yesterday morning there was no sign of our cages.  Mam said she’d had a tidy up to make it look smarter for visitors.  I reckon it had something to do with that man in a suit who came to visit on Friday. I got to meet him, because I need to know who’s there, you know.  He was very polite and scratched my ear and said I was bonny.  Well, he didn’t say ‘bonny’ but that’s what he meant.  Obviously a man who knows what’s what.

We also had cake yesterday.  It was because it was the anniversary of Fred’s passing, seven years ago, and seven is a special number.  This was Fred with Auntie Dawn, a couple of weeks before he decided to go and join his brother. He looks like a bonny chap too.

Mr Percy and the case of the disappearing lump

Hello, Percy here.  I hope the title intrigued you.  Yes, my lump is disappearing!  Mummy wondered whether she was imagining it a week ago, and she looked at me very carefully most mornings last week.  Then she took me to see Dr Sally, who agreed: my lump is definitely getting smaller.

I am, apparently, a wonder of modern science, since a lump like mine has never been known to spontaneously disappear.  It might have been affected by the sample Dr Sally took, which made it change its method of working.  That’s the only thing Dr Sally thought she’d read about.  But we can’t feel anything that might indicate it’s gone anywhere else.  So I may be unique.  I may hold the clue to all sorts of things.  A combination of Baytril, Metacam, Emeraid, Nutrimed, carrots, lettuce, kale, lavender and mint, may be exactly what is needed to make this sort of lump go away.

On the other hand, it may just be one of those things.

And I’ve even put on some weight.  I am the picture of a healthy guinea pig.  Dr Sally’s very pleased with me.  Even more importantly, Mummy loves me, cos she told me so.

It’s two years since I had my first birthday cake here.  I arrived on 14th November 2015, and Dylan and Dougall had their fourth birthday on 27th November.  I started out by living in the grey cage opposite them, the one Oscar’s in now.  After Dougall died, I moved into their cage and Dylan went upstairs to live with Kevin. Then Dylan died and Midge went upstairs and Oscar came downstairs.  It’s all very complicated.  Mummy still misses Dylan and Dougall a lot, which is funny, because Neville looks just like them.  He’s a nice boy.  So is Roscoe.  I hope we get to run around some more with them in future.
