I don’t like it hot

Hi, Pippin here again, at the end of another hot week.

I suppose we’re getting used to having the doors and windows all night, and Mummy putting our shade out as soon as she wakes up. Then we do normal breakfast, and morning run, then we go back and stay quiet until it gets to a number Mummy think is acceptable for us to go out in the evening.

The magic number seems to be 27, or 28 if our room is too hot. Mummy comes in during the day and reads numbers from her desk. At breakfast time it’s usually 22, then either 20 or 22, so she leaves our door open until it gets to 23, when she closes it. Then she’ll say things like 24, 28…. And a while later it’ll be 25, 29 or even 30. And sometimes it gets to 26, 34, but we haven’t had that this week, only 25, 34. And we don’t go out in the evening until it’s 25, 27.. Apparently it’s the temperature in our room, and the temperature outside.

Mummy has been putting a cold square thing wrapped in a towel in each of our runs every day. Last week she put them in late in the day when it was very hot, this week she’s put them in soon after breakfast. I like mine but R&R ignore theirs. Mummy thinks their coats may be insulating them from the heat, because they don’t seem worried by it. I didn’t like it at all at the beginning of the week, but I’m coping better with it now.

Mummy doesn’t like it because she won’t go out for a walk or anything if it’s over 30. Except her book fairs, when she says she sits quietly and talks to people if they are mad enough to go shopping in the middle of the day. Although they probably come into the fair to get out of the sun. Sounds good to me, Mummy.

The grass is getting very dry. Mummy says there’s none better in the garden now, but at least we get some fresh air in the evenings. That’s true! And after we go in, the hedgehog comes visiting, Mummy watched him drinking the water she’d left for him yesterday. He drank it for five minutes. He must be thirsty living outside, although he probably stays in the shade all day. Like us.

See you next week.

love

Hi Pippin – I so agree with you … it’s been too hot – your Mummy has been looking after you so well in this weather … and I’m glad the hedgehog gets to drink. With thoughts as the heat goes on! Cheers Hilary
