The day the sky fell down

Hello, Victor here, not Ludo, because he said I’d better tell you myself.

Mummy was putting us out in the garden on Tuesday afternoon when it wasn’t as hot as earlier. She put Pippin in his covered run, then I got in my grey tent to go out too. We were almost there, when suddenly I fell to the ground, and my tent squashed down on top of me. I was trapped! There was something pressing on me, and wiggling a bit, but I couldn’t see a way out. I needed to escape! Then I saw a gap in the tent and squirmed through it and ran for safety. Some sort of hiding place. Anything!

Then I realised Mummy was lying on the ground, lying partly on my tent, which was looking a bit squashed. And the wooden arch was completely flat. Mummy talked to me a bit, but I think she was also talking to herself. She seemed to have trouble standing up. I ran around a bit more, searching for safety, while Mummy walked around on her knees. I had a quick chat with Pippin, who wasn’t very helpful, and then Mummy came over and used his run to get herself onto her feet.

After that everyone carried on as if it was normal, Ludo and Locksley came out to their runs, and Locksley hid as usual. Ludo listened to me and nodded, saying something like, yes, the world changes at times, you’ll soon get over it. After they were out, Mummy stood watching me for a while, then picked me up in my red tunnel and took me inside to the meds place, She felt me all over, and made me move my legs, and that was all right. Then she put me back on the grass with those dangerous things in it, and I crept around very cautiously. I didn’t want to attract the attention of whatever jumped on me.

After a while, I could hear Mummy talking to someone in her hand, and then she got up and got me in my red tunnel again, but this time she put me in my box. Well, that felt nice and safe. And I went to see a vet, who checked me all over, and encouraged me to walk around, but by then I was feeling better, so I walked normally. So Mummy brought me home again and we had cucumber and biscuits and hay for the night.

So that is the story of the day the sky fell down. I still check everything very carefully if Mummy wants me to go in anything. She’s given up trying to get me into my grey tent because it smells of fear, so I won’t go in it. I’ll generally go into one of the others. I hope the sky never falls down again, though.

till next time

  1. Oh! My goodness Victor what a terrible experience! I think you can rest assured that the sky will not fall in on you again.

I am rather worried about Mummy though ….is she alright… Whatever jumped on you must have jumped on her too is she okay.

My word Jemima that must have been a nasty shock for you. I do hope you are okay…. nothing, broken, sprained or strained. My guess is you have some spectacular bruises. I am ashamed to admit though shocked and concerned for you Victors description of you walking on your knees had me in stitches, which I hope you are not 💜💜

    Stay safe, stay upright 💜💜💜

    1. Mummy here. I was fine,I’ve had lots of practise landing gently on my side after tripping over the panels. First time in the new house, and first time since my wrists stopped working. But now I know how to get myself up off the floor, and most rooms have something at seat height for me to use my elbows on!

      Thanks for your thoughts ❤️

Hi Victor … Well I’m glad you’re safe and well … but I’d be worried for Mummy – though with those obstacle tents around I can see how she might have tripped – just so glad she didn’t land on top of you. Take care – I thought you were going to say the heavens opened and you were drenched … take care all of you – cheers Hilary

  3. Just got around to reading this. Thank heavens everyone is ok! I was thinking maybe Mum needed to see an MD- a people MD – herself. Falling is a real problem, especially trying to get up (for me it’s hard because of metal knees and prosthetic shoulder joints!)

Victor I hope you recover from your fright and that all is well again.

    1. Funnily enough I’d been to see my MD in the morning about something else entirely. I think the walking about and then sitting to watch Olympics made my knees stiff and I didn’t lift them up enough.

      hope you’re well..enough!

      1. I am, although my shoulders ache often. I try to swim every morning for an hour, which helps. We’re sitting here awaiting the rain from the hurricane that hit Florida… pets and cucumbers to the boys.

That sounds very scary! I’m glad you’re well. Give my best to Mummy, and tell her to rest up.

Humans are clumsy sometimes. One day, I was trying to do something or other and fell square onto Augustus’ cage! I am VERY lucky that he wasn’t in the cage at the time; he was hanging out with his dad on the human bed. If he’d been in his cage … I don’t want to think about it.

What makes it worse is that I had Digby in my hands when I fell. I can’t even remember how, but Digby ended up on top of his own cage, with his legs poking through. He was scared but suffered no injuries. I was nervous all night, though, and kept checking on him. The extra veggies he received improved his mood.

I broke a lot of things that day. We had to buy a replacement cage, hay ball, etc.

I had some bruises but was otherwise fine.

We do our best, but we are not as graceful as you pigs. Be patient with us.

    Love you. XOXO
