Hello, Locksley here. Happy new year!
Mummy and I had a discussion yesterday. It was about whether I would behave well enough to have a party with Pippin on Wednesday. It’s his first birthday on January 11th. There’s a letter that says so, which Auntie Sophie sent us. Mummy said she was confused because a lady said it was last week on our Facebook page, but maybe she was confused. We’re all confused, she says. And then she said I’m not as confused as I used to be, and gave me a hug.
Well, now I’m really confused.
I think the trouble with parties is that none of us really get on. Like with the Christmas photo. I know Mummy was really disappointed we couldn’t sit together for it. We managed a few minutes of our first big party which was the Jubilee last year, but the usual problems are Victor and Ludo.
Ludo sometimes spends half a minute on the floor in the morning with Pippin. If Pippin goes past Ludo when he’s in the hay box, all is fine. But if Pippin stops and tries to join him, or if they meet anywhere else, Ludo gives a really threatening growl. I don’t know why. Perhaps he’s scared of Pippin. Pippin’s very quick, but Ludo’s much quicker now his arthuritis isn’t hurting him. Mummy says he could almost do an agility test.
Victor is sort of with Pippin like he is with me. Does all the going up to you as if everything’s fine, then suddenly he’s being pushy, so it’s not. Pippin hangs over his cage to talk to him, and Victor stands up on his to talk to him, but put them together, and… well it doesn’t work. Mummy tries. She holds them close to each other to chat, but they get into growly mode, so she puts the one she’s holding back.
Victor and I mostly do a ‘live and let live’ policy on the floor in the morning, but sometimes he comes up and says something rude to me, and I say something rude back, and we poke noses at each other until one turns away.
So unless Pippin is going to get on with me, I don’t think it’s going to be much of a party. I think he was too busy with Victor and Ludo when we had our photos taken. We didn’t not get on, but that’s not the same as partying together. Not like my first birthday party with Biggles and everyone – except Ludo, of course.
I guess we’re going to find out on Wednesday.
I have a feeling Mummy is going to be sad.
See what happens next week!

Good luck and I hope the party is a success. With lots of good food, maybe all of you will be distracted?

I’m sorry you don’t get on better. But I know how it is wanting your own space sometimes.
Since I’m late in here, I’m going to go take a look at this week’s post and find out how the party went.
