Fred doesn’t like the run :(

I can’t get to the bottom of it, but it’s becoming obvious to me that Fred doesn’t like the new run 😦  He doesn’t come upstairs with me, which is nice in one way ‘cos I have it all to myself, but I’d like to sit here with him and watch mummy and think deep thoughts.

I know he’s been up here, but not for long.  He said mummy puts him up there when she brings him up from our cage, but he always goes straight down.  He doesn’t mind the tunnel, he says it’s fine. Then I’ll be nipping up and down from time to time whenever I fancy a little nibble of whatever mummy has put downstairs for us (and to check on him, but don’t tell him I said that). And most of the time he’s sitting in the middle of the corner bit under the loft (more or less under where I was sitting, in the middle of the square). Sometimes he’ll sit or lie down in whatever mummy puts to the side of that – the new snugglesac to start with, then she thought perhaps he didn’t like that so she brought up one of our grassy hutches.  And he sat in that and had a rest the other day but didn’t today or yesterday, so I sat in it as a sort of encouragement to him. He’s eating ok, and does wander round from time to time, but he just doesn’t seem to get the enjoyment out of it that I do.

What do you think I should do?

mm that’s a real problem George 😦 I suppose it might sound harsh but could Mummy make it so that he can’t get back down, for a little while each day?

Perhaps if he has to stay up there for a little while at a time and has fun things up there, he won’t automatically run back down every time.

Of course it might be that Mummy can’t block it off safely … perhaps a question on the forum might get better advice.

Well, I don’t mind if he doesn’t want to come up here, Lady Snailspace, but it’s just that he spends nearly all his time sitting in the one place. He just doesn’t seem to like the run at all, not just the loft.

Give him some time, G. Maybe he doesn’t like change, but will come around to the run in time. Maybe you can think of some other fun things that Mummy can put in there.

I know you boys are grown boars now, but maybe you can give him a nudge and engage him in a game of hide-and-go-seek.

Well, he is starting to enjoy it more I think. When I asked him he used to say ‘I’m fine’ in that sort of ‘not really fine but I’m not going to make a fuss’ way. On Thursday he was roaming around a bit more and we were playing follow-my-leader a little like we used to do when we were young (well, not as long and not as fast!)
But he winked at mummy so he must be enjoying it more. She took this picture of us just after he winked at her 🙂
