I had an Adventure!

Hi! Pippin here, wondering how hot it’s going to get this coming week.

Last week was good, very pleasant, and we went out most days once the shade was over our runs. We were on another patch of grass we hadn’t used before, and I found lots of interesting flowers in it, all of which were edible, although some I preferred not to. Apparently Fred and George loved plantain, but I don’t.

On Friday I had an Adventure. I noticed the day before that Mummy hadn’t fixed the panel up to R&R’s run properly, so while Mummy was reading her book beside me, I gently pushed the panel aside and went exploring!

There was a thick patch of tall grass, then the grass disappeared and I was among stems of plants, some quite thick and woody, and others that were very thin, and being propped up by other plants. And there were interesting leaves growing into a sort of vase shape, and going up and up. I sniffed them and they definitely smelled Not Edible.

By this time I could hear Mummy walking about, telling me to come back. I think she had my tent with her. I think she saw my back a couple of times, and I decided to play hide and seek with her, which was fun for a while. She went further along the border, much further than I had, and then came back, peering into the plants and parting the leaves. But she started to sound worried, and went back to my run and called me a few times, so I thought I’d better go back. And anyway there wasn’t anything more yummy there than in my run, so I came out of the undergrowth right by my run, and Mummy sounded very pleased to see me. She let me back in my run and fastened the panel properly.

So that was my adventure. I really enjoyed it. But I think once is enough, and I wouldn’t like Mummy to get so worried again.

Have you had any adventures recently? I don’t think we’ll have them this week, because it’s going to get very hot again, but maybe not as bad as last time.

See you next week

love

Sorry I’m late in commenting on this one.

Do not do that again, Pippin. I can only imagine how worried Mummy was that she wouldn’t be able to find you.

My two boys haven’t had any adventures like that, but there have been plenty of times in which the weird feathery nonpig known as Tweek would fly somewhere and hide. She’d go under a chair or in the closet. Why? Who knows. Those WFNPs have logic all their own.

We’d worry that she was hurt. We depended on her mate, Peepers, to call for her so she would answer, but wouldn’t you know it — at those times, he was as silent as a mouse. So very unhelpful.

She hasn’t done it lately. Maybe she’s mellowing out in her senior years, and with Peepers gone, there’s no one to scare her into hiding. He was often a jerk to her. Why? Again — who knows.

Be good, Pippin. No more running away!
