M is for Mites, apparently

HI! Pippin the Perfectly Precious Popcorn here.

We’ve had quite a week. On Monday Reggie squealed like he was in real pain when Mummy tried to pick him up for his cuddle. She felt him all over and he squealed a lot when she felt his back legs, so she took him to the vet.

Apparently he squealed a lot when Dr Rebekah felt his leg, too. And his back, and all his joints, and all his muscles, in fact just about everywhere, and especially when she pulled some hairs out to look at them under the enormous magnifying glass.

“He’s got mites, look.” She said to Mummy, and Mummy looked and said there was this long almost clear thing waving its legs about on the hair. “They’ve been pricking his skin and making him sore.”

“I bet Ronnie has got them too,” she said.

Dr Rebekah told Mummy to get some Xeno-5 for them, and better get some Xeno-450 for me as well, because I’m 1300 gms, and the Xeno-5 pipettes only go up to 1250. And Mummy couldn’t find anywhere selling Xeno-450, so she said I’d just have to have the Xeno-5. They arrived on Wednesday, but too late for Mummy to do it then, so we had it on Thursday when she got back from seeing horses.

First R&R got haircuts so they could get closer to the mites down at the hair roots when they were grooming themselves.

Then they got the Xeno spot-on behind their ears and down their back.

Then I got the Xeno as well, but not a haircut. And then we got clean beds and Mummy washed all our stuff in funny smelling stuff, and we had to go without tunnels until they dried.

Pippin post spot-on

And Mummy says she feels like they are walking all over her, but Dr Rebekah says she can’t catch them from us, only human mites, which are different from guinea pig mites. Mummy keeps scratching, though. Maybe they’ll just die and fall off her when she grooms herself.

Apparently we have to have spot-on again in two weeks before we go on holiday. And maybe again two weeks after that. Then we mite have finished. 🤣🄸

I’ll tell you more next week.

love
