Hello, Locksley here again.
We’ve just been through a very hot week. Mummy did all the usual things like opening the door at night so we got cool air in, and shutting it during the day to keep the hot outside. And closing the curtains when the sun was on our side, although she also let the awning out first thing, which helped as well, and meant we could have some daylight for running around in our room.
She discovered she had to pull the awning in a bit so that the sun got rid of the water on the grass. It’s called dew, and despite the heat, it didn’t disappear quickly. Once that’s done the awning gives us lovely shade over our runs. But we went out as soon as it was cool enough.
Well, that’s not quite true. One day Mummy put us out thinking it was cool enough on the grass, because the grass is cooler than the air. And then she sat down beside us to read. She probably hadn’t been there more than ten minutes when she got to her feet and said “It’s too hot, boys.” And as we agreed we jumped in our tents to be carried in. It wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t comfortable. It was much nicer inside with the blowy thing on. But then we went out again a couple of hours later, and this time it was nice. Although it got dark very quickly, and Mummy could only just see us to bring us in. She was reading on her book that lights up, so she hadn’t realised how dark it had got!
She also moved our runs, and Victor and I have very long grass to tackle. It’s great fun!

Yesterday it wasn’t sunny until late in the day but it was still hot – and it rained, too. We didn’t get the thunderstorm that they forecast, though. It was very sticky, and I was glad when Mummy got the blowy thing back from her room (she’d had it on while she went to sleep the night before–it has a timer). It may be a little noisy, but the blowiness feels good.
It’s supposed to get cooler from now on, and it’ll be more like autumn should be. But still warm enough to go out for a few weeks yet if the grass is dry enough. Mummy is very pleased with our grass-mowing services, but we leave lumps where it’s mainly birds-foot trefoil. One night she went out late to feed the hedgehogs, and they were waiting for her, looking just like lumps of trefoil! She threw them their food and left them in peace.
Have a peaceful week
love
Locksley xxxx
PS Did you notice that Ludo sent you a kiss last week? I couldn’t believe it!

Yes, Ludo was very affectionate. We are having much the same weather here – this week it has finally cooled down about eight degrees and is very pleasant, but it is still not fall yet. We will have more hot weather into October. Sounds like you boys are very comfortable, though!
