Ludo’s not feeling well

Hi there, Pippin here today.

We’ve had a nice week, and had lots of grass time in the afternoons. Mummy also brought long grass in for us on days we didn’t go out. We both love it when Mummy brings grass in for us.

But Ludo has moments when he doesn’t feel well. In the mornings, before he has his meds, he sits around and pants a bit, and looks a bit scared. Then he has his meds and his cuddle time, and by the time I’ve had mine, he’s back in his run and feeling fine again. Yesterday though, his lump was leaking, and when Mummy checked it, some of the skin pulled away. It sounds horrible, but Ludo says it’s okay, nothing to worry about. I think Mummy didn’t agree. She’s taking him to see Dr Rebekah this afternoon.

Other than that, we just enjoy ourselves. Grass, shade, dandelions, hay. Nice beds and tunnels. Everything a piggy could want really. And meds, too. Well, there has to be something…

keep well

love

  1. Mummy here. Just a quick update on Ludo. The trouble with his large, leaking lump is that it should be removed, but Ludo is an elderly pig with heart and other trouble (arthritis, cataracts, bladder stones under control, possible deafness – selective), and in such cases, anaesthesia is not recommended because it carries a high risk of affecting his quality of life negatively. Pigs are known to have reactions to anaesthesia. I know: Fred, Dylan, Kevin and Victor all had adverse reactions which carried them off between a day and a week or so later. OTOH, without having his lump removed, he is dragging round an increasingly large mass which could get infected, and that is affecting his quality of life.

So on balance, we’re going to try to remove the lump on Friday. Please keep your fingers crossed for him.

CatsandCoffee I’m rarely away overnight, which they can cope with just fine. For more days, someone would come in to feed them. In extreme cases they would go and board at Wheek&Squeak Rescue.

    1. After further discussion, we think Ludo is happy enough as he is, and the risk of the op is probably too much, so he’s not having his lump off tomorrow.
